I can't find a prom date. This pretty much sums up my high school career of definitely not being the "hot desirable girl" round here.
What was YOUR high school prom like?

John Ashcroft... Hehehehe!
Chief, size doesn't matter!
Jimmy, check out the woman next to her, in the mauve combat boots, va-va-va-voom!
Seriously Speck, Great for all women! What a wonderful turn-out, and it wasn't covered-up by the media! Perhaps those corporate bigwigs at the Clear Network, want their misstresses to have abortion as an option, (rather pathetic if true). News coverage or not, women bonded together on this one. One less hot button for Bush to push (or he'll have to face the consequences)! A truly great moment for women! And some great (big) pictures, Speck! Though I wish you were in one or more! Always fun to see folks you know, you know. Besides I wanted to see what you wore, a home-made piece?
A few news items, it's funny, absurdly so, some of things coming out of Bush's mouth, now that the elections are drawing nearer, like that he wants all Americans to have high-speed Internet connections. What's that about? Dangling raw meat in front of starving wolves (teenagers?)! Or is he just chumming the waters (churning DSL providers into a feeding frenzy?)? Okay, these metaphors are way out of hand!
And this from Iran...
"Flying Saucer Fever Grips Iran, Theories Abound!" What the F???? Bush is planning another invasion, just watch!
Oh and I saw a great independent film on PBS last night, about the Weather Men! I believe it was called "The Weather Underground" or something like that. It featured intervirews with some of the original members, showing them as they are now, juxtaposed against 60's footage of them giving speeches and holding press conferences. There was at least one who was in jail (serving time for a robbery inwhich one or more people were killed), several who seemed to have resumed "normal" lives, and one who was a teacher at a community college. Not all so much glamorous as the legend might suggest. As the Viet Nam War was ending they started to loose control of their organization, fighting among themselves, many were wanted on bombing charges, and most having gone underground. They moreorless dissolved under these circumstances. Later, after some of the heat died down, many turned themselves in, and then to see some of the legal cases against them dissmissed in the light of how the FBI and other law enforcement had mishandled their cases, illegal wiretaps, other evidence and civil rights mishandling. Did you know that they got their name from a Dylan song, "...You don't need a weatherman to see which way the wind blows..." And one thing that one of the women said, seems to ring true even today. It's not that they believed in violence, it was that they saw it to be more violent to do nothing, while their society continued to inflict more violence against others. It was a pretty cool show!
Ahhhhhh, the 60's! Oops, a nostalgic moment there. Actually I was just growing-up then, being only ten in 1966. But it definitely left an impression on me. Maybe not the best time to grow-up, but an exciting one! There was a lot of hope and what seemed to be positive energy then. Yet the news daily showed scenes of violence and social upheaval. And yes Virginia, all hasn't been abandoned nor lost from the causes of the 60's! Thanks to that activism we have ecology awareness, better established civil rights, women's rights, drug awareness (although, come-on, legalize pot already!), the concept of peaceful protest (though not originating then, was at least shown to be viable), stricter laws governing law enforcement (I know, the current administration is trampling most of these as best it can), lots of other stuff! An interesting time. Are we headed toward a similar era? Let's see what this election brings!
Peace and Peaceful Activism!

here's one more. They're big, sorry...

and this one is at the rally at the end of the march when they had the speakers. It's on the National Mall and it was PACKED from the capitol to the Washington Monument. I think the NY Times had a good arial pic of that in the paper on Monday.

Well the march in D.C. was totally amazing!! They said that it was the biggest march on Washington ever and the stats on how many people were there ranged from 500,000 to 1,150,000. I think it was around 1 million. Definitely more than 500,000.... It was HUGE! The biggest mass of people I've ever seen! Quite incredible really. And lots of the menfolk showed up as well, which was great. It was a very positive day with one pervasive message of VOTE! So that was cool. And there were lots and lots and lots of young people there, which is also heartening. So it was quite a lovely day and it was very focused on "take action to save your rights." I loved it. Anyhoo, here are a couple of pics that I took.

Way to put us on the FBI list there, Awwa. Thousands of tiny bot scripts are probably searching the internet for pages with his last name and the 6th word of your second to last sentence.
I think I hear the robots coming now.

"How many US soldiers have died because of your orders Mr. President? How many on average, die daily? How many will die before we can leave the country? Can you give the American people any verifiable reason for why they are dieing? Can you give the American people any justifiable reason for why any of these American citizens died? Can you tell us now, why we attacked Iraq? Without lieing, can you give us the real reason that you led this country into this costly, unresolved situation?"
[Objection! Assumptive!]
{Sustained!]
"How many Iraqis died during the initial attack? What are the reported figures that you received? What are the real, undoctored figures?"
[Objection! What undoctored figures? Your Honor, please?]
[Sustained!]
"Mr. President, what are the figures that you were told about the numbers of Iraqis killed during the initial Iraq War? How many Iraqi citizens have died since then? How many at the hands of US soldiers? How many Iraqis have died to other reasons; including lack of resources such as food, medical care, housing or reasonable ability to support themselves through gainful employment?"
[The prosecution is making assumptions!]
{Sustained! Reframe from assuming facts not in evidence Mr. Prosecutor!]
"How many US soldiers have taken their own lives? How many are sickened by the circumstances in which you have placed them?"
[Your Honor, please...]
[Sustained! Mr. Prosecutor, please limit your questioning to verifiable facts!]
"Mr. President, including the soldiers killed in Afghanistan and Iraq, including the innocent citizens killed in both nations, including all of those who died in the World Trade Towers and the Pentagon, how many people are you directly or indirectly responsible for killing?"
[Objection!]
[No, I'm going to allow this one. Mr. President?]
"Not enough yet! Our plan has not fully unraveled! Eventually the world will only be populated by us aristocrats. We'll have robots and alien slaves to do our bidding! Eventually I won't just rule the world, I'll rule the cosmos! Well, that is if we beat the aliens! That's what daddy says! Now leave me alone! I got work to do! How am I gonna get rid of all of those Elvis impersonators!"
[Order! Order! Bailiff, seize the defendant! Remand him without bail! This hearing is hereby granted to the grand jury! We'll see if the Supreme Court will hear your excuses, Mr. President!]
=========================================================
Of course he'll get off! But maybe some whacko will assassinate him outside of the courthouse!
Well, it might go something like that...
Peace,

Oh No!
Xenius.Com
Well, at least they are about "the product of genius!" HAHAHA!
And I recently saw a great trashy movie, "Five Minutes to Live" aka "Door to Door Maniac." Starring a guitar picking, slim, tall, man in black, none other than Johnny Cash, as the homicidal maniac! B&W, early 60's, a edgy crime drama, where Johnny takes a suburban housewife hostage, while his cohort, goes to the bank where hubby works and demands ransom. Johnny gets to sing the title song, "Ya got, five minutes to live... !" The fim also stars a very young, "Opie Taylor" probably one of Ron Howard's first film roles, as the child, he fakes a death scene, ultra moment! It's very trashy and quite choice! This film was shown at a local greek restaurant/bar, "Zippy's Baba." Lot's of Mediterranean cuisine available, as well as an artsy/tatoo/biker crowd. They (Zippy's) are planning a regular monthly showing of trashy films. Next month, "Bikini Monster Beach Party!" (Or something like that). Check-out more fabulously trashy films at:
Trash Palace.Com
I believe that they sponcer the films in some indirect way (maybe only as much as they provided the DVD that was shown).
I hope that the Women's Lives March was peaceful and productive. Although I'm not sure if it happened yet. I haven't seen any news coverage. But then it wouldn't be unusual if the item was hidden or glossed over altogether. I hope that the Speck was able to enjoy a nice, relaxing vacating, if not a more invigoratingly productive protest. Jeez, are they listening anyway?
***UPDATE**************************************************************
Apparently the March for Women's Lives was quite successful! At least in as much as it's actually being reported. "Hundreds of thousands!" And the sweetener is it also serves as an anti-Bush rally. At least this news item reads that way. Good going women! Good for you! ***********************************************************************
I had the good fortune to get together with some old, seldom seen friends today. Amazingly, we seem to be on the same page regarding general US and world events. (This next part was not necessarily directly subscribed to by those present, but certainly represent my views)... GW did it, he needs to pay for his crimes, public execution is the only world acceptable solution. Let's do it now! Legally try, convict and execute the bastard! Okay, so no US President has ever been executed for war crimes. So what! We'll send a true and clear message, "Democracy is about the People!" Not about hidden, secretive agendas, which serve the wealthy, "would be kings!" Those who would attempt to derail, side-track, or otherwise mislead this nation of participating voters, will be punished! "For the People, by the People!" ad infintum!
Peace!
