Part 3: Washington, DC
July 26
We arrived in Washington in the early evening. We stayed at the Hotel Washington, which is only a few blocks from the White House. It was quite posh and surprisingly, toddler-friendly. It was walking distance from most of the interesting sights. I'd definitely stay there again if we could get such a good deal on the room another time.

July 27
It was probably the hottest day of the entire year in D.C. and that means hot. 98 degrees and very high humidity, so it felt like about 115. What it felt like was being microwaved!

Charlotte was running around like crazy inside the Lincoln Memorial, so we didn't get any good pictures of her there. We did get some video in which she was adopted by a pair of preschoolers and ran around with them like crazy!

We didn't get as much sightseeing in as we might have liked, because I had a heat-induced migraine in the afternoon and ended up taking a nap. Chris and Charlotte had lunch at Cafe Mozart and were quite a hit with the staff. Any time a dad is out alone with a cute baby, he attracts much more attention than a mom with the same baby. ;)
After I recovered we ate dinner at Red Sage, just down the block from our hotel. That was excellent.
In the morning it was time for the long haul back to Boston! We had such a nice trip. We hope it won't be too many years before we take another big family vacation.
